Stuck on a pitch?   Overwhelmed by workflow?  Not sure what editors want or where to publish?

Pitch ASSIST
🤝

coaching for freelance journalists

HOW IT WORKS

The goal:

Multiplying your chances of publishing your work where you want.

How it works:

40-minute, 4-step process session ($1/minute)

  1. Identify your goals for this pitch and your professional goals in general

  2. Offer constructive, honest feedback as a commissioning editor might

  3. Then, together, we workshop the idea, hashing out all its potential (and potential weak spots)

  4. Finally, we brainstorm appropriate placement and timing, and fine-tune a pitch email.

FOCUS

We'll focus on one pitch at a time, with the goal of securing the right placement.

We'll work one-on-one, focusing on your both your long-term goals and your goals for this pitch.

You'll leave the session with a ready-made plan of next steps.

OPTIONS

Maybe there is an angle you haven't considered?

Maybe your idea is better suited to video or audio?

We'll think broadly about your story's potential.

We'll also discuss how you can get paid the
mo$t for your idea.

If you have two pitches, we can schedule a double session (1.5 hrs).

Cost

$40 for 40 minutes (1 pitch)

2-pitch sessions: $80 for 90 minutes (10 min. free)

(I have found that less than 40 minutes isn't enough to give a pitch its due, from start to finish)

Please note:

Pitch Assist sessions are not used to obtain my contacts, nor for me to steal your ideas (no way!). Our discussions are totally confidential.

Once you land your pitch, I'll share your success -- with your permission  --through my social media channels, which are followed by major editors from countless publications, which will in turn increase visibility for you.

ABOUT

Pitch Assist is my (Shannon Sims') side hustle to support fellow freelancers at any point in their career.

After a decade of freelancing for major publications, I KNOW THE STRUGGLE! Lord, do I know the struggle. 😅

I have seen the ropes and have developed a finely-tuned sense of what pitches work and how to get editor buy-in. That skillset has helped me get published in all of my dream publications: The New Yorker, The New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, Travel + Leisure, The Atlantic, and many more.

Now, I find great, soul-nourishing satisfaction in sharing those skills and helping other writers land stories in their dream outlets. It's the kind of help -- and tough love -- I wish someone had offered me.
